Without a doubt the most iconic Chanel suit we have ever sourced, this piece dates to the S/S 1995 Barbie collection - one of, if not the most celebrated of Karl Lagerfeld's collections for Chanel during his 36 year tenure as creative director for the venerated French luxury maison. Already a highly sought after collector's item for Chanel fanatics, the profile & value skyrocketed after a version was worn by Margot Robbie in the 2023 Barbie movie - now it's an undisputable vintage holy grail & museum piece.
Crafted from Lesage fantasy tweed in shades of pink, apricot & cream, the suit comprises a collarless jacket which is cut narrow & form fitting through the torso and a matching mini skirt with an adjustable zippered slit at the front. Both pieces are trimmed with opalescent pink micro sequins & lined with pale pink CC logo silk. The jacket also features a gold chain at the interior to weigh down the hem, and has zippers at the front and sleeves which feature dangling gold Chanel logo marked zipper pulls, as does the zipper at the front of the skirt. Several versions of this suit were shown on the runway in the S/S 1995 show, however this exact version was Look 64 on the runway modelled by Stephanie Seymour. Similar versions appeared on Carla Bruni, Helena Christensen & Linda Evangelista on the runway, as well as on Claudia Schiffer in the campaign, making this is an incredibly well documented & storied piece of fashion history. Made in France.
