A rare early piece by high end US label Malcolm Starr which was known for its glitzy evening gowns pairing luxurious fabrics with elaborate bead & sequin work, this divine gown was designed by Elinor Simmons for the label in 1968 and appeared in the ad campaign for that season.

Crafted from a beautiful silk blend mid-weight fabric printed  with a psychedelic inspired pattern rendered in shades of burnt orange, midnight blue & cream, this features a molded bodice which curves around the bust and which is entirely covered with beads, sequins and prong set crystals all hand sewn into place to exactly follow the pattern in the fabric underneath. The edges of the bodice are also bordered with a hand set bead and gold cord detail that precisely follows the curves of the dress.

The high waist band is set below the bodice creating a cut-out effect that allows a tiny triangle of skin to sensously peek through & under that the full skirt flares out dramatically to the floor. The gown is finished with hip pockets and is fully lined with hand-finished seams & a zipper at the back to fasten. A simply stunning special occasion piece, this is a wonderful example of over the top 60's glamour.
