S/S 1988 one shoulder button heart dress
This fabulous dress is a unique and rare piece by collectible designer Patrick Kelly, the first American and the first person 0f colour to be admitted to the prestigious ‘Chambre syndicale du prêt-à-porter des couturiers et des créateurs de mode’ – the governing body for the French fashion industry. Dating to the spring/summer 1988 collection and exhibited in the Philadelphia Museum of Art Patrick Kelly retrospective, this is made of form-fitting stretch ribbed cotton with a heart motif carved out of the negative space between hundreds of wooden buttons. A literal museum piece, this is an extremely collectible example of vintage designer fashion from an incredibly gifted designer.
